Bear hunting in Croatia

Hunts are carried out under the guidance of an experienced professional, from secure enclosed high seats that are easily accessible via a well-maintained network of forest and local roads. Bear hunting grounds are located in the sparsely populated mountainous regions of Croatia—most notably Velebit, Gorski Kotar, Lika, and Istria—at altitudes between 800 and 1,100 meters. Hunting takes place in spring and autumn (March and October), with game drawn to selected stands through careful feeding practices. Success depends largely on weather conditions and the activity of other predators. For this reason, hunts are best planned over six days, ideally when snow covers the ground and moonlight is favorable. Adult bears usually weigh between 120–180 kg, though exceptional specimens can reach up to 300 kg. The cost of a harvested bear is determined by the trophy value of its skin or fur, assessed according to CIC ( Int. Council of Game and Wildlife Conservation ) standards.

Our agency organizes hunts strictly on the basis of official permits. To date, all of our guests have had encounters with bears, with a 96% rate of hunting opportunities and an overall success rate of 90% achieved over the past six years.
