Mouflon hunting in Croatia
From our own experience, and that of many of our guests, we can state with confidence that hunting mouflon in the sparsely vegetated Adriatic belt of Croatia is an experience unlike any hunt in the forested grounds of Central Europe. The contrast is so stark that even seasoned hunters often remark it feels as though they are pursuing an entirely different species.
In Mediterranean hunting grounds, where vegetation is low and sparse, the mouflon’s exceptional eyesight plays a decisive role, shaping the very nature of the hunt. Despite frequent daily encounters with game, success depends heavily on the hunter’s equipment and physical condition. The hunt requires approaching game across steep, rocky terrain covered in dense scrub and executing a precise shot at ranges of 150–250 meters. A successful outcome also relies on the skill of the guide and his knowledge of the animals’ paths, movement patterns, and behavior.

Our agency partners with four mouflon hunting grounds along the Adriatic coast, from Istria to Pelješac. Each area has its own character, allowing us to organize the hunt according to the guest’s preferences and abilities. In some grounds, the hunt can feel like a demanding mountain expedition, while in others it is more of a relaxed walk. Since all these hunting areas are located along the Adriatic Riviera, guests can choose from a wide range of accommodation and services—both in type and price—making it easy to combine hunting with a seaside holiday at some of Croatia’s most attractive destinations. Game populations ensure daily hunting opportunities, with an overall success rate of about 90%.
Trophy strength in Mediterranean hunting areas may be somewhat less varied than in continental grounds, but mature medal-class rams are regularly harvested. We warmly invite you to experience an unforgettable Mediterranean hunt, where the traditional oak branch given in honor of the harvest is replaced with olive, and the day ends with fresh fish and excellent wine.
Funny fact
Around 300 years ago, mouflon were introduced from their native habitats in Sardinia and Corsica to Central Europe. Today, the population numbers are estimated at around 90,000, with hunting regulated by law in nearly all EU countries. In some parts of continental Europe, the mouflon is still considered non-native, particularly where this Mediterranean species struggles to adapt genetically to unsuitable habitats. In Croatia’s Adriatic hunting grounds, however, we can say with confidence that the mouflon has truly “returned home.”
