Chamois hunting in Croatia
At present, Croatia is home to several areas with established chamois populations, the most notable being the Biokovo hunting grounds, spanning 11,000 hectares within Biokovo Nature Park. This population is stable, ranging between 400 and 700 animals, with management and annual harvest carefully regulated according to climatic conditions and predation.
Hunting is conducted by stalking from October 1 to January 31, always under the guidance of experienced local professionals. This is a classic mountain hunt, set at altitudes between 400 and 1,700 meters, where movement may be made difficult by rugged karst formations, sudden weather shifts, or strong winds. For this reason, we recommend planning at least four hunting days. Hunters should be properly equipped (clothing, footwear, weapons) and in good physical condition to fully enjoy the experience.

Since 2012, more than 30 of our guests have taken part in this hunt, with a remarkable success rate of 90%. Beyond the hunt itself, the destination offers extraordinary scenery, with sweeping views over the Adriatic Riviera and the town of Makarska. The location also makes it possible to combine an October hunting trip with a few days of family vacation. We suggest flying into Split Airport, followed by transfer to Makarska, with firearms rental available on request.

Funny fact
Archaeological analysis of skeletal remains found along the Adriatic coast confirms that chamois inhabited this region as far back as 12,000 years ago. The species disappeared in the early 19th century, but today’s populations are the result of a successful reintroduction on Biokovo in 1964.
