Roe deer hunting in Croatia

(Capreolus Capreolus)

Croatia sees an annual harvest of approximately 25,000 roe deer, yet only select hunting grounds provide ideal conditions for their sustainable management and quality trophies. Wet forest complexes in the east, with jackals, and mountainous areas home to lynx and wolves, are not optimal habitats for roe deer.

Our agency works closely with four of Croatia’s most successful roe deer hunting estates, each covering 2,800–6,000 hectares. Hunts are conducted from high seats or by stalking, with dense populations ensuring daily encounters with game. Roe deer density in these areas ranges from 8–12 animals per 100 hectares, and harvested deer typically weigh around 20 kg dressed. Well-managed populations of healthy, physically strong roe deer consistently produce exceptional trophies. On these estates, trophy weights often exceed 400 grams.

For a unique experience, hunters can also pursue roe deer on the mountain meadows of Velebit and Učka, reachable from the Adriatic Riviera in under 30 minutes.

The hunting season runs from April 16 to September 31, with peak periods during April 15 – May 5 and August 2 – 10 (rutting season).
